Unveiling a new frontier of creative expression, ICE Cubes, in collaboration with MetaVisionaries, has once again united the realms of art and space through the inspiring ‘Art From ISS’ project. This collaborative effort streamed captivating works of art from the International Space Station (ISS), and stimulating the imagination. From the hypnotic bionic art of Viktoria Modesta to the artificial intelligence-assisted melodies of 10-year-old child prodigy Elizabeth Ng Ziqi and the fusion-tech creations of Ayesha Mubarak Ali, such combinations of arts, science and artificial intelligence strengthen the idea that space is a vast territory that can also be explored creatively through new forms of Art.

When thoughts of space drift through our minds, images of brave astronauts venturing into the unknown and the tantalising search for extraterrestrial life often come to the forefront. If you are already familiar with the ICE Cubes service, you might have some awareness that we facilitate research, experimentation and technology development in microgravity. At the same time, we also hold a strong appreciation for art and have, on multiple occasions, facilitated art to reach the International Space Station (ISS).

In our recent collaboration with MetaVisionaries, we were able to do so once again through “Art From ISS” and streaming digital art from the Maleth III Cube, supporting various artists to use the ISS platform in a creative and unique way.

One of the featured artists who captivated the audience was Viktoria Modesta, a bionic pop artist, creative director and musician. Via the live streaming from space, Viktoria shared and presented some of her creative work, including an extract from her documentary series “WHO I AM LIFE”, and a music video called “In the Mirror”, inspired by the monumental James Webb Space Telescope mission.

Viktoria’s artistic journey was not the only one live streamed from the ISS. We also welcomed younger participants and audience by streaming the work of 10-year-old Elizabeth Ng Ziqi. whose enchanting song, ‘Space Nomad’, was generated with the assistance of artificial intelligence (AI). This was made possible with the support of the Wall-Pie Space Juniors program. Their mission is to educate children of all ages and backgrounds about the wonders of the cosmos.

Ayesha Mubarak Ali, an internationally acclaimed multimedia visual tech-artist and creative director of our partner MetaVisionaries, also streamed her art work from the ISS. Her remarkable achievements as fusion-tech artist earned her a place among the honorees on Forbes’ prestigious ’30 under 30′ artist category list for Asia in 2023.

The inclusion of AI-generated music, the works of young talents, and the recognition of artists from different backgrounds at the intersection between arts, science and AI demonstrate that the artistic allure of space knows no boundaries. It is essential to remember that space is not merely the domain of engineers and scientists; it welcomes dreamers, poets, painters, and storytellers in general.

Space is an “expansive” canvas, awaiting the brushstrokes of humanity’s creativity and ingenuity.
