ICE Cubes and Space Applications Services, together with Metavisionaries and Qatar University, and in partnership with the International Space University and Blue Origin’s Club for the Future, launched the Global Sustainability Space Challenge 2022, as part of our mission to give access to the space economy and frontier technologies for a sustainable future through education, innovation and social impact.
In a world that is increasingly fast moving, unpredictable and full of opportunities, our global challenges came with big ambitions, to find new, high impact solutions to foster a sustainable future. Together with partners, we are building a community of change-makers, thought leaders and industry experts who are committed to build socially inclusive competency and human capacity required to meet immediate and future sustainability challenges.
Global Sustainability Space Challenge (GSSC) 2022 was a competition focused on integrating space in global entrepreneurial solutions for the benefit of humankind. Multidisciplinary and multicultural teams of 4-7 students from around the world were given the opportunity to utilize space for innovative solutions that tackle 5 global sustainability challenges related to SDGs – Climate Action Track (SDG 13), Sustainable Food and Agriculture Track (SDG 2), Life Science and Healthcare (SDG 13), Sustainable Consumption and Supply Chains Track (SDG 12), Sustainable Arts, Fashion & 3D Printing Track.
The competition was officially launched on September 5th, 2022 and the winners were announced in late November, during a special event held in Qatar. The winners of the tracks received a prize allowing them to further mature their innovative solutions.
